Why Homework Serves as Punishment to Kids
Homework is a constant feature in most learning institutions across the world. Almost every student from every grade must carry home some assignments upon which they will get graded by their teachers. Homework gets attributed to helping students in various ways, including engraining life skills for the immediate and long-term. But, is assigning homework fair to the students?
Homework as Punishment to Students
A considerable proportion of individuals can never consider carrying work home as this turns their whole life into work. Most employees believe in dissociating their private life from working life, and therefore the end of their workday symbolizes their last connection to work for the day. Well, of course, excluding the period an employee tries to push for a promotion where they can engage in work activities on weekends or evenings during the week.
The same applies to kids as well as they spend the entire day in school learning. For them to bring back homework prevents them from relaxing and doing other rejuvenating activities. The time they should use to switch off and take a break from school learning and its related mind-numbing activities.

Kids only started taking back home school assignments at the 20th-century turn. Many reports attribute this to the perception of the mind as the muscle which needed mental exercise for strengthening. Also, for some other reason, it was concluded that the task has to happen at home.
Many believe that assignments initially began as a means of punishing students who in one way or another misbehaved or didn’t do their classwork. With time it morphed into a universal thing that students had to do regardless of their class behavior. The reality surrounding the genesis of homework notwithstanding, students hate these assignments, and this is the reality across the globe. However, in existence also is the small proportion of students who enjoy homework as they do homework out of love and choice and not through force.
Research shows a correlation between student achievement and homework in as much as it doesn’t consider the hour or place where the assignment got carried out. For instance, students getting an hour of school time to carry out their homework can have the same or results that are much better. However, overburdening kids with homework after five to seven hours of straight learning in school can be detrimental to their development. It converts them into overworked engines instead of kids.
Homesteads should be a haven for kids to develop positively by participating in various challenging, fulfilling, and creative activities. Throwing homework into the mix eradicates the fun from the setup at home and denies kids the freedom they crave. Parents instead should endeavor to stop anything from the school set up into stretching within the confines of their homes. Such things dictate the way kids live and spend their lives and time away from school.

Homework is not very valuable to students if teachers actively and properly administer their teaching responsibilities in school. Kids deserve rest just as adults do if not more rest as they have young and developing brains that should get better management. Burdening kids with homework not only adds to their stress levels but prevents them from getting creative.
